Welcome to my world of Yorkshire Terriers. Please stay a while, and look around. Located in Twin Falls, Idaho As of May 2019 I have retired from breeding. I still have Bugsy, and offer him at stud to approved, registered females. I want to thank everyone who gave my precious babies a wonderful home throughout the years.
I have been breeding dogs since 1967. I started with Japanese Spaniels, (now known as Japanese Chins), and Shih Tzus. The Shih Tzu wasn't yet accepted by AKC for registration at that time. It took a lot of dedication, and hard work by breeders to perfect these breeds and get them accepted for showing, and registration. They didn't become a legitimate breed simply by crossing two breeds, and calling the pups a combination of the breed names. It takes decades to create a true breed of dog. Unfortunately all the hard work done by ethical, dedicated breeders is being undermined by people who are now cross breeding, (creating mutts), and calling them "designer breeds" It's an insult to sincere dog breeders such as myself, and a sad situation for the dogs. I have been breeding Yorkies, exclusively for 27 years. They are the most entertaining, little dogs in the world. Full of love, and eager to please. They are big dogs in little bodies. The AKC standard for the breed says they must not exceed seven pounds. Most of my pups mature at 3 to 5 pounds. I keep weight charts on every pup and can tell by comparison how big they will be when grown. (within a few ounces). I've found through the years that when I sell a puppy as a pet, generally the new owners keep their coats in a puppy clip, or a schnorkie, (That's a Schnauzer clip, with a Yorkie twist) However keeping them in long flowing coats isn't really that difficult. Daily brushing, weekly bathing takes about 2 hours a week. The ears should always be done the standard way. The tips should be shaved, and trimmed. I start this process when my pups are two weeks old, removing the hair on the tips keeps them from falling, so they will stand erect in the correct small inverted V shape called for in the standard. I also handle my puppies daily from birth until they go to new homes. They are raised in home underfoot, and are well socialized with dogs, and people. I always have their potty training (to a doggie door) well underway before they leave here. I also keep their vaccinations up to date, and worm them. Females are the preferred sex by most of my customers, but I must say here, if neutered at a young age, boys actually make better pets than girls. They are less demanding, more eager to please, and sweeter of temperament. Also neutering is far less expensive than spaying. If a puppy is sold as a pet, not to be bred, having them spayed, or neutered is a MUST, for the health of the dog. These little guys love to travel, are easy to teach tricks to, and if done correctly, potty training is also easy. The trick to training a Yorkie is consistency. Never waver from the routine. They are creatures of habit almost to the obsessive, compulsive degree. I use that characteristic to make training a breeze, by never letting them get away (even once) with a bad behavior. Once they are allowed to do the bad behavior without reprocussion, it will be twice as difficult to teach them not to do it.
